About this blog

Hello

My name is Teresa, I am a nurse by background but in recent years I have connected many nurses and health care professionals through the use of social media (I am the founder of and run @WeNurses on Twitter more details can be found at www.wecommunities.co.uk) and run my own personal twitter account @AgencyNurse and my own personal blog teresachinn.co.uk  however this blog is different ……

Purpose…

…… the purpose of this blog is to share my experience of the educational system and what it feels like to be a parent just trying to do the best you possibly can.  My husband and I are the parents of 3 beautiful children aged 16, 14 and 8, all of whom go to school in and around Bristol.  All of our children have dyslexia to some extent or another and one of them also has dyspraxia and at times we have found the school system somewhat baffling with systems designed with teachers and governors in mind and not parents and children.

Often people within organisations find it difficult to see the perspectives of people using their services, to the extent that they may tick all the boxes but never really listen or know what it feels like to be on the other side.  I feel that by sharing my perspective I can perhaps start to not only give others the courage to share their stories but also give organisations the courage to listen and to engage.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this

  1. Agree from past experience and recent event with post 16 education totally different mindset and approach. I questioned also respect of confidentiality and at the fore ” no decision about me without me “. This is Obviously from my underpinning knowledge in health yet not acknowledged in education . No demonstration of any thought to holistic care of my child and no glimmer of wishing to change either . Wrong wrong wrong education !!! ( in own experience )

  2. Thank you Cheryl – yes i have used the term “child centred education” many times … it seems to just make sense that approaches should be similar and holistic care should be at the forefront … much to learn and apply i feel
